Master Plan - St. Paul's Cathedral & Residences

In November of 2011, the San Diego City Council unanimously and enthusiastically approved our redevelopment project.  Thank you to everyone who worked so hard, wrote letters, attended meetings and talked to your friends and neighbors!

What is the "Master Plan?"

St. Paul’s is pursuing the development of two land parcels adjacent to the Cathedral in order to sustain our mission and ministry.

North of the Cathedral is the “Olive” property, which includes the Park Chateau apartments, a small parking lot, and the existing Cathedral administration building. South of the Cathedral is the vacant “Nutmeg” lot. Together these two properties comprise about 50,000 square feet of land, on which two mid-rise residential buildings will be constructed. The buildings will include 110 condominium units and 20,000 square feet of office & program space for the Cathedral. Each building will have underground parking for its occupants and for St. Paul's.

The goals of this project include:

  • 20,000 square feet of much-needed program and office space for St. Paul's;
  • A redeveloped, expanded campus with a beautiful courtyard;
  • A financial endowment for the Cathedral's mission and ministry;
  • Increased underground parking for the Cathedral, which will also serve to free up street parking spaces for our neighbors;
  • A major financial contribution to San Diego's affordable housing program;
  • Sustainable ("green") construction;
  • Expansion of the Cathedral building in the spirit of its original design.
