Christian Formation
2006 Confirmations, Receptions, Reaffirmations
Bishop Mathes Confirmed, Received and heard the renewal of Christian commitment of these happy people at the Easter Vigil.
We welcome all those who were confirmed, received, or reaffirmed their baptismal promises at the Easter Vigil and Elisa who was baptized Easter Sunday. May your lives be filled with the peace of Christ and a thirst for God.
Christian formation is an important way to continually grow in Christ. We need to know what the Bible really says, Or Christian history. Or different ways of praying. Or Christian stewardship and the way we grow through sharing our time , talent and treasure within the body of Christ. Or expanding our practical knowledge of basic Christian theology. One of the five points of our simple cathedral rule of life is Learn Constantly. Here we call it Christian formation.
The point is, no matter what your age, there is much to learn from classes offered at the church. If you are interested in learning about a certain religious topic, speak to Canon Thomas or Dean Richardson.
Because church members on a journey of Christian formation thrills our clergy. Learning is part of loving God with one’s mind. Christian education helps us understand what living as Christians is all about. So go ahead, ask about a class that might interest you. Throughout the year we offer ten standing classes and many workshops and Sunday forums.
“It is not enough to have a good mind,” said the French philosopher, René Descartes. “The main thing is to use it well.” Learning about Christian beliefs and practices is using one’s mind quite well. St. Paul’s Cathedral is a place for you to learn. It has a class for you.
Learning about Christ is a lifelong pursuit. If we are to love God with our minds as well as our hearts, our souls and our strength, we need to keep learning even in old age. We need to be well informed about our faith, our church and its beliefs so that we can express to others what Christianity is.
We love God with our minds when we know the Bible, when we understand what we believe and when we’re able to tell others the reason for the faith we embrace. Happy Easter and welcome all new members.
