Three D’s: Discover, Develop, and Deploy for Christ
This spring we begin our Time and Talent Stewardship Campaign with three speakers, Marion Gaston, David Smith and Deedra Hardman, who will talk about what it means for them to be baptized members of the Church and how they live out their sense of commitment here at St. Paul’s Cathedral, in our community, or in the world. Brand new Ministry Booklets will be handed out the Sundays before Pentecost, June 4. It is all about the many and diverse ministries open to cathedral members. You will also receive an interest indicator card to complete and bring forward on Pentecost when we celebrate God’s gift of the Holy Sprit to the Church.
We always assume that when the subject of Stewardship comes up that we’re talking about tithing, about money, about the annual budget. And, we forget what Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans:
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; it if is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.”
As Christians we give time, talent and treasure to God. This is about time and talent. How do you get started? Use whatever understanding you have from your pool of passions, areas of interest, talents, preferences and your wonderfully unique personality, to guide you in discerning where God is calling you to serve. Look at the needs of the cathedral and community. Then jump in with a willing heart and an open mind. On Pentecost Sunday, June 4, bring your completed Interest Indicator form and place it in the basket located near the Altar rail.
The key is to discover, develop, and deploy your spiritual gifts as a process. Don’t worry about finding the perfect fit immediately. Give yourself permission to learn as you experiment.
A wise person once said, “For a healthy life, ministry is not something nice for which we volunteer, but a spiritual necessity.”
