eClarion Home

Canon Andrew Rank photoDear Friends:

Welcome to the first eClarion newsletter which is the online version of our formerly printed, The Clarion. We're excited about the new possibilities: longer stories, more timely news, flexibility, wider distribution, negligible postage, and media-rich content.

We plan to distribute the eClarion electronically 6-12 times per year. However, it will have a permanent location on our website under the Communication section. Also, for those that like to read away from their computer, simply print the pages you like, we've formatted the pages for your printer.

This past year has seen a new website, an electronic bulletin, and now the eClarion. We hope you find that it fits into your lifestyle and encourages your participation in our Cathedral life.

Blessings,
Canon for Communications
The Rev. Canon Andrew Rank, SSP

2006 Annual Meeting and Chapter

Approximately 200 people attended this year’s annual meeting in the Great Hall at the cathedral on January 15, 2005. The event which included a buffet lunch began with an invocation by the Dean. Everyone who attended received a copy of the annual meeting report and the new Welcome Booklet created by Green Bird Media (Cathedral member Susan Rust), and Canon Andrew Rank with text by Vincent Blocker.

Seven nominees for Chapter were presented for seven Chapter vacancies. The nominees were: Kris Hatch, Terrence D. Kelly, Guido Maldonado, Jr., Russell Okihara, Donna Perdue, Mary M. Rathbun, and Jane Vander Velde. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously approved that the nominees be elected by acclimation. They were acclaimed elected with no dissent. A full list of current St. Paul Cathedral Chapter members is listed on the website.

In his annual report, Dean Scott Richardson offered an appreciation for Jim Greer and Pam Surko as the Cathedral wardens during 2005. The Dean also acknowledged of the cathedral members who volunteered but were too numerous to be individually recognized.

Teed, Weil and Ford photoSignificant events and transitions during the year were listed. Among them were the election of Jim Mathis as the new Bishop of San Diego, the retirements of the Rev. Canon Lee Teed and the Rev. Canon Joan Ford, the ordination of the Rev. Mary Moreno to the priesthood and her role with the augmented Hispanic ministry, various staff changes in the Cathedral office, and the change in status of the Rev. David Norgard. The Dean also briefly discussed significant Cathedral achievements in 2005. He mentioned his intention to participate more fully in the life of the community in the future. To facilitate this change in his focus, the Cathedral program and ministry will be supported to a greater extent by the Rev. Canon Allisyn Thomas and Christine Spalding.

Penelope Smith presented The PACEM Volunteer of the Year Award for 2005 to Cheryl Cramer.

The Robinson Cross is awarded every year to outstanding, long-time Cathedral members. This year the Dean awarded Robinson Crosses to Carol Dukelow and Cliff and Pam Surko.

The Dean’s Warden, Jim Greer thanked outgoing Chapter members Deedra Hardman, Pam Surko, Shawn Anderson, Sara Megling, Ken Tranbarger, Joanna Airhart, and Bob Reed for their service to the congregation.

The Very Rev. Scott Richardson reappointed Jim Greer to be Dean’s Warden for 2006.

At a chapter meeting immediately following the lunch, Steven Valez-Confer was elected the People’s Warden by the chapter for 2005. As required by Cathedral By-Laws, Scott Richardson was unanimously elected as a member of Chapter for 2006.
