New Chapter Wardens Take Office

The Very Rev. Scott Richardson named Bob Reed, a long time cathedral member and former Robinson Cross recipient, the Deans Warden at the annual meeting.
At the special Chapter meeting which followed, the continuing and new chapter members elected Kris Hatch as the People’s Warden. Kris came to St. Paul’s in 1990. After experiencing the healing power of St. Paul’s Sunday School, Adult Education, Small Groups and Kerygma classes, she felt honored to work a year and a half on the search committee which led to the election of John Chane as dean.
Recovery Ministries Board hosted by Cathedral
The board of directors of Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church held its annual meeting at St. Paul's Cathedral January 18-20. Bishop Mathes, Dean Richardson and Canons Andrew Rank and Barnabas Hunt joined the directors for lunch on January 19. Recovery Ministries holds an annual conference yearly for all the diocesan recovery ministry committees around the country. They also have an excellent web site: www.episcopalrecovery.org.

Organizer Chris Harris says, “Thanks to everyone for making the Wine Tasting and Art Show at Jonus Depuis Gallery such a smashing success! It was a really great time and hopefully everyone met some new friends.

Get Ready to Zydeco! Music Starts at 5:45 pm this year
Lent begins in February with the solemnities of Ash Wednesday. However, the night before called Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday is a night to celebrate and rejoice. Although many parishes observe the day with pancake suppers, St. Paul's Cathedral has the custom of offering a Mardi Gras evening of worship and Dance. Once again the Zydeco Patrol Band will provide the Cajun music and spirituals. Come with your favorite Mardi Gras costume, get ready to catch the beads our dancing clergy, servers and vergers throw to the crowd.
Following the Zydeco service a delicious Cajun dinner will be served in the Great Hall. Tickets for the dinner, served by our Cathedral Fun Committee, go on sale soon. This year's post-service Cajun dinner will most likely sellout again this year so reservations are highly recommended. We offer individual and this year, group reservations if you'd like to come with your friends or other ministry group.

St. Paul's Cathedral Hosts Diocesan Convention, Feb 9-10
Once again, St. Paul's Cathedral is proud to host the annual convention of the Diocese of San Diego. There will be displays by several cathedral ministries, including Dorcas House and Integrity. There will be two breakout workshops on Dorcas House during the weekend. Events start with workshops at St. Paul's, then move Friday night to the Aerospace Museum in Balboa Park for a dinner with a keynote speaker. The Eucharist, more workshops, diocesan elections and the annual business meeting of the diocese will be on Saturday. Volunteers from St. Paul's are needed to provide hospitality, set up refreshments on site and box lunches at noon. We also need helpers to assist with clean-up. This is an opportunity, which occurs every three or four years, when we can show the spirit of St. Paul's and why we are the Cathedral for the City and the diocese.
An infant and an adult received Baptism on the first Sunday of the new year. Here are baby Sebastian Myatt and Spencer Velky with their sponsors.
