Children, Youth, and Family Advent Celebration
Sunday, December 3, after the 10:30 a.m. service, 5th Ave. Courtyard
Join the Children, Youth, and Family Ministry as we get ready for Advent and the coming of Christ. During this community celebration, we will create Advent wreaths and send you home with ideas for how you and your family can cultivate your faith together during Advent. All are welcome, especially families! There will be a $5 suggested donation for each advent wreath made.
Advent Procession with Carols and Motets
Sunday, December 3, 5 p.m.
During this service, the choir moves throughout the cathedral, with singing and lessons proclaimed in different locations from Chapel to Sanctuary. This Procession symbolically demonstrates a pilgrimage of journeying in faith. Please plan to join us for this beautiful, traditional service sung by the St Cecilia Choir of Girls and Men—a lovely way to set the tone for the holy seasons of Advent and Christmas. Childcare will be available from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Alternative Gift Expo
Sunday, December 10, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Shop at our annual Alternative Gift Expo, where all sales benefit non-profits and charities. You can purchase handmade clothing; fair trade coffee, tea, chocolate, and olive oil; and jewelry, décor, and accessories designed and crafted by global artisans. Find us in the Great Hall. Join us for the Celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patron Virgin of the Americas, and take part in the procession around the Cathedral campus accompanied by the Mañanitas played by the Mariachis, the Mass with the beautiful flower offerings and more. // Acompáñanos en la celebración de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, virgen patrona de las Américas, y participa en la procesión alrededor de los predios de la Catedral acompañada por las Mañanitas interpretadas por los Mariachis, la misa con las bellas ofrendas florales y más.

Join us for a special bilingual service with a Eucharistic service and a traditional reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter. A community meal with activities for children will follow! Childcare will be provided starting at 4:30. // Acompáñanos en un oficio bilingüe especial con Eucaristía y la dramatización tradicional de María y José en busca de posada. ¡Después habrá una comida comunitaria con actividades para los niños! Christmas Lessons and Carols
Sunday, December 17, 4:30 p.m.
Enjoy the timeless Christmas story with age-old carols performed by the girls, boys, and men's choirs. This is a popular event, so you may want to arrive early to reserve your spot. At 4:30 p.m., the St. Cecilia Girls’ Choir will sing “A Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten, in its original version for 3-part trebles with harp as the prelude to the service of Lessons and Carols. At 5 p.m., the Cathedral Choristers of Boys and Men announce the arrival of Christmas in word and song as they present their annual “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.” Childcare will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. This is a popular event, so you may want to arrive early to reserve your spot; Cathedral will open at 4 p.m.
Christmas Eve Services
Sunday, December 24
On Christmas Eve, we will not have our usual 8 a.m. service or a 9 a.m. forum, and there will be no Sunday School.
• 10:30 a.m. Choral Eucharist—Come to this elegantly formal service, which includes lessons, prayers, hymns, a sermon, choral music, and communion. This is our Advent 4 service (not a Christmas Eve service)
• 1 p.m. Misa en español
• 5 p.m. Family Service—Bring your entire family to this child-oriented service. There will be an interactive storytelling of the nativity story, and the girls, boys, and men’s choirs will provide festive music for the season.
• 10 p.m. Festival Service—Join us for one of the highlights of the Cathedral year, when we celebrate the birth of Christ with a beautiful and joyful Christmas service. The celebration features the Cathedral Choir and pageantry and includes readings, a sermon, and a sung Eucharist (communion). There will be a bilingual bulletin. [10 p.m. music, 10:30 service]
Christmas Day Holy Eucharist Service
Monday, December 25, 10:30 a.m.
Continue the celebration of Christ’s birth with this formal service, which includes lessons,prayers, hymns, a sermon, and a sung Eucharist.
Labyrinth Walk and Evensong
Sunday, December 31, 5 p.m., Great Hall
All are welcome to a special New Year’s Eve Evensong service on the Labyrinth. The Evensong, a contemplative and peaceful service that includes choral music, chants, hymns, and prayers, will be followed by an opportunity to walk the labyrinth. Walking the labyrinth is a type of contemplative prayer, or prayer without words, which is a deep part of the Christian tradition. Enter the labyrinth and find your way to a center of deep spiritual peace.
New Year's Day Eucharist and Mass
Monday, January 1, 10:30 a.m., Chapel
This Holy Eucharist celebrates the “Feast of the Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ,” eight days after Christmas and the Holy Day in the Episcopal Church that commemorates the naming of the child Jesus.
