Integrity San Diego is the local chapter of the national organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Episcopalians and their friends. On the national level, the organization pursues justice for those it represents, particularly around the full inclusion of lesbian and gay people in the life of the Episcopal Church. It engages in advocacy at General Conventions of the Episcopal Church and other major forums, publishes a journal, The Voice of Integrity, holds annual conferences, and participates in coalitions with other progressive religious groups.
Integrity has two chapters in the Diocese of San Diego, one of which makes its home at the Cathedral. (The other is located in Palm Springs and meets at St. Paul’s in the Desert.) In addition to providing an ongoing identifiable voice for lesbian and gay concerns within the diocese, the local chapter also provides opportunities for fellowship, worship, and service. The chapter normally meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM for a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the chapel, followed by a pot-luck supper and general meeting, usually held in the Guild Room. Guests and newcomers are welcome to come for just the service or the fellowship or both.
The chapter is involved in identifying other Episcopal churches within the Diocese of San Diego which can be recommended as genuinely welcoming of lesbian and gay neighbors and visitors. Throughout the year, the chapter participates in various service projects, such as providing hospitality at diocesan functions held at the Cathedral or some of the Cathedral’s own special events. It also ensures that gay and lesbian people are represented at various church meetings.
