Each Sunday, toward the end of the Mass, we hear some variation of this call to action – a weekly reminder that following Christ is no casual pastime but an active responsibility to use the gifts we've been given to do the work God is calling us to do. Stewardship therefore, is about how we give back to God, in thanksgiving, for the many gifts we’ve been given. Here at St. Paul's this is lived out through giving of our financial resources, caring for our environment, living sustainably, serving others and thoughtfully planning for our legacy.
And as with other spiritual practices such as regular prayer or worship, St. Paul’s promotes our growth as stewards through a series of campaigns throughout the year focusing on different aspects of stewardship:
Annual Pledge (fall) – We believe that financial stewardship is an integral part of our spiritual journey and our relationship with God. We also believe strongly that our standard of giving should reflect our standard of living and ask each parishioner to consider making a pledge that is both responsible and significant based on his or her financial situation.
Time & Talent (spring) – When we put our time and talents to work serving others, we serve Christ. But at St. Paul’s, we believe that means more than just volunteering for the first available ministry. For us, it means starting with a process discernment, prayerfully discovering our gifts, our talents and skills, our passions, our life experiences, our personality and personal style – all of those things which make each of us unique and uniquely equipped to serve others.
Legacy Giving (winter) – Legacy giving is about what we leave behind – our “accumulated stewardship.” Through make some simple arrangements ahead of time, we can ensure that our gifts will continue to be put to work building the Kingdom long after we have entered the Eternal Kingdom.
